MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Laredo Youth Orchestra is to offer exceptional musical training to young people in the community, educate young musicians in a professional atmosphere, to provide training by professional musicians of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra, to give opportunity to perform a wide variety of music literature, to support local music teachers and programs, and to enrich the cultural life of the area by cultivating the next generation of musicians and audiences.
Music Director and Conductor
Has been the Laredo Philharmonic Youth Orchestra director since Fall 2012. He is also currently the Low-Strings Instructor at the Laredo Community College, and a music instructor at Texas A&M International University. It was in Laredo where began his music studies in the public school system at the age of 11. When he entered high school, he attended the Vidal M. Trevino Magnet School of Fine Arts and Communication, where he first began taking cello lessons with Ms. Stacy Weill.
After graduating, he then pursued his musical studies at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. There he furthered his cello studies with Professor Emmanuel Lopez and studied conducting with Dr. Douglas Morrison, and in 2008, he acquired his Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Music Education. Recently, Guillermo received his Masters degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he was selected to be the Strings Initiative Graduate Assistant for 2008-2010 school year. There he was under the tutelage of the cello pedagogue, Dr. Wesley Baldwin and conducting with Mr. James Fellenbaum. click here for full bio.
